2012 College Football expert predictions

It?s finally here. College Football!!!!!! The marquee matchup tonight is South Carolina at Vandy, but there are a handful of other games tomorrow. Tomorrow night we get Boise St. versus Michigan State, then on Saturday there?s a full slate of College Football.

What would a football season be without TVF sharing our predictions (as ridiculous as they may be). With the season kickoff just a few hours away, the esteemed writers here at TVF have made our picks. Some of our predictions will come to fruition, most of them will not. Some of them will garner laughter. We?ll just have to watch the games and see what happens. And without further ado, here are the picks that will surely all be wrong by Halloween.

The ACC has several picks for FSU, Va Tech, and Clemson. Pretty standard predictions by any means. The real question is whether or not FSU is truly back on a national level. I say yes, having them reach the BCS Title Game (come on, that schedule is a joke). Everyone else disagrees.

The Big 10, much like the ACC, has picks scattered. Michigan State, Michigan, and Wisconsin all garnered multiple votes. And for some reason, Nebraska earned one vote (really, cbh?). Almost everyone went with the favored Sooners in the Big 12, but give extra credit to Hawkeye and JP for their completely random picks. Pac 12 and SEC picks are as close to unanimous as the group got, heavily favoring USC and Alabama. Those two teams are also picked by most of us to reach the BCS Title game. It?s worthy to note that I?m the only writer who picked a school other than USC, Bama, or LSU to win the title. Maybe I?m just that dumb.

The fun predictions! Barkley?s the heavy favorite for the Heisman. No shock there. But patphish should be heavily criticized for picking a top 10 team as ?surprisingly good.? Georgia is the popular pick to suck this season, getting 3 picks. However, I question if that?s truly a surprise. Georgia screams mediocrity, pretty much every year. All that being said, feel free to share your own predictions or mock ours in the comments.

Earthquake hazards map study finds deadly flaws, MU researcher suggests improvements

COLUMBIA, Mo. Three of the largest and deadliest earthquakes in recent history occurred where earthquake hazard maps didn't predict massive quakes. A University of Missouri scientist and his colleagues recently studied the reasons for the maps' failure to forecast these quakes. They also explored ways to improve the maps. Developing better hazard maps and alerting people to their limitations could potentially save lives and money in areas such as the New Madrid, Missouri fault zone.

"Forecasting earthquakes involves many uncertainties, so we should inform the public of these uncertainties," said Mian Liu, of MU's department of geological sciences. "The public is accustomed to the uncertainties of weather forecasting, but foreseeing where and when earthquakes may strike is far more difficult. Too much reliance on earthquake hazard maps can have serious consequences. Two suggestions may improve this situation. First, we recommend a better communication of the uncertainties, which would allow citizens to make more informed decisions about how to best use their resources. Second, seismic hazard maps must be empirically tested to find out how reliable they are and thus improve them."

Liu and his colleagues suggest testing maps against what is called a null hypothesis, the possibility that the likelihood of an earthquake in a given area like Japan is uniform. Testing would show which mapping approaches were better at forecasting earthquakes and subsequently improve the maps.

Liu and his colleagues at Northwestern University and the University of Tokyo detailed how hazard maps had failed in three major quakes that struck within a decade of each other. The researchers interpreted the shortcomings of hazard maps as the result of bad assumptions, bad data, bad physics and bad luck.

Wenchuan, China In 2008, a quake struck China's Sichuan Province and cost more than 69,000 lives. Locals blamed the government and contractors for not making buildings in the area earthquake-proof, according to Liu, who says that hazard maps bear some of the blame as well since the maps, based on bad assumptions, had designated the zone as an area of relatively low earthquake hazard.

Logne, Haiti The 2010 earthquake that devastated Port-au-Prince and killed an estimated 316,000 people occurred along a fault that had not caused a major quake in hundreds of years. Using only the short history of earthquakes since seismometers were invented approximately one hundred years ago yielded hazard maps that were didn't indicate the danger there.

T?hoku, Japan Scientists previously thought the faults off the northeast coast of Japan weren't capable of causing massive quakes and thus giant tsunamis like the one that destroyed the Fukushima nuclear reactor. This bad understanding of particular faults' capabilities led to a lack of adequate preparation. The area had been prepared for smaller quakes and the resulting tsunamis, but the T?hoku quake overwhelmed the defenses.

"If we limit our attention to the earthquake records in the past, we will be unprepared for the future," Liu said. "Hazard maps tend to underestimate the likelihood of quakes in areas where they haven't occurred previously. In most places, including the central and eastern U.S., seismologists don't have a long enough record of earthquake history to make predictions based on historical patterns. Although bad luck can mean that quakes occur in places with a genuinely low probability, what we see are too many 'black swans,' or too many exceptions to the presumed patterns."

"We're playing a complicated game against nature," said the study's first author, Seth Stein of Northwestern University. "It's a very high stakes game. We don't really understand all the rules very well. As a result, our ability to assess earthquake hazards often isn't very good, and the policies that we make to mitigate earthquake hazards sometimes aren't well thought out. For example, the billions of dollars the Japanese spent on tsunami defenses were largely wasted.

"We need to very carefully try to formulate the best strategies we can, given the limits of our knowledge," Stein said. "Understanding the uncertainties in earthquake hazard maps, testing them, and improving them is important if we want to do better than we've done so far."

The study, "Why earthquake hazard maps often fail and what to do about it," was published by the journal Tectonophysics. First author of the study was Seth Stein of Northwestern University. Robert Geller of the University of Tokyo was co-author. Mian Liu is William H. Byler Distinguished Chair in Geological Sciences in the College of Arts and Science at the University of Missouri.

Hands on with the Samsung Galaxy Camera

We're live in Berlin at the Samsung Unpacked event where the Samsung Galaxy Camera has just been unveiled. We've had a little hands-on time with the new Galaxy Camera, and the first thing that strikes is that this is a capable, high-quality point-and-shoot. The device feels extremely solid and well built, and the 4.8-inch HD SuperLCD display is of similar quality to the S3's.

We shouldn't forget that this is a camera powered by Android, and not an out and out Android device. Samsung has put their latest version of the Touchwiz Nature UX on there, based on Android 4.1. Yes, that's right, this is a camera running Jelly Bean. The possibilities with a connected camera are pretty exciting, and we're seeing the start of a whole new category of devices.

Of course, image quality remains to be seen. However, with a 16-megapixel sensor and 20X optical zoom, Samsung looks to have created a compelling alternative to smartphone cameras for those looking to graduate from the world of smartphone photography.

Check out our hands on video with the Galaxy Camera above, and remember to keep it locked to AC throughout the week for more on this and everything else from IFA 2012 in Berlin.

Is CM Punk his own worst enemy?

This is the story in the mind of the WWE Champion: CM Punk vs. The World, an underdog tale of a disrespected champion who fought and clawed and scratched to the mountaintop and was met with nothing but mild appreciation, if that. It?s a story of a slighted conqueror who has deferred to others and who, in his mind, has become little more than a straight-edge doormat waiting for someone ? anyone ? to acknowledge the magnitude of his accomplishments.

Because make no mistake, CM Punk has accomplished a great deal. WWE as we currently know it would not exist if not for that fateful ?pipe bomb? in Las Vegas (WATCH) and the goodbye kiss to Mr. McMahon at Money in the Bank last summer (WATCH). Punk?s actions opened the door for underdog Superstars across the WWE roster and arguably led to the rise of such under-the-radar competitors as Daniel Bryan and Zack Ryder. Punk?s WWE Championship run is among the longest in WWE history.

It makes sense that such a competitor would draw hungry foes looking to knock him off his perch, but maybe ? just maybe ? The Second City Saint is looking for his enemies in the wrong places in this case. Maybe the only enemy here is Punk himself.

The fact is that Punk hasn?t encountered a whole lot of animosity since the ?pipe bomb.? It?s only now, a year and change later, after he?s been denied the final match on eight straight pay-per-views, that foes appear to him from all sides. He, and only he, sees detractors and haters wherever he turns, and hasn?t hesitated to lash out ? violently ? against those he counted among his friends as recently as a few months ago (see: Lawler, Jerry).

Raw General Manager AJ Lee has labeled Bryan as the unstable one, but the statement seems to apply a little bit more to Punk nowadays. All it took were two passive-aggressive conversations with Eve and Big Show about how he was still second fiddle to the likes of John Cena, Triple H and Brock Lesnar before Punk snapped. The next week, he lashed out against The Rock at Raw 1,000 ... in a match where The Great One was ostensibly trying to help him, no less. From then on, each of The Voice of the Voiceless? sermons became less of a paean for change than a demand for vindication. Specifically, a verbal one wherein some Superstar of repute, be it Cena or Lawler, declared Punk as the rightful ?Best in the World.? Both those men refused, and it was Lawler who paid the price, left in a heap when an irate Punk beat him into unconsciousness this past Monday on Raw (PHOTOS?| VIDEO).

But consider this: Punk has defeated any and all challengers who have come his way for the supreme prize. The only time he lost the WWE Title ? at SummerSlam 2011 ? was when Alberto Del Rio cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on Punk, after Kevin Nash had flattened him with a Jackknife Powerbomb. Not so long ago, he retained the title against a Superstar who claimed that HE was, in fact, the ?Best in the World" (PHOTOS: PUNK VS. JERICHO) Punk won the title, he won the bragging rights, he has won and won and won again, and the only person who thinks it?s not enough at this point is him.

He?ll have a chance to end it, though, and soon. Punk vs. Cena at Night of Champions is a made match. The ?Best in the World? will get to go one-on-one against the man who he believes is overshadowing him as WWE?s alpha dog. He?ll likely even be the final match of the night. Maybe that will be enough. Maybe then, CM Punk will finally look in the mirror and see the supreme Superstar everyone else besides him seems to see. Maybe he?ll find his voice again.

Then again, maybe not.

How To Work Web Hosting Like A Seasoned Pro : Internet Business ...

Considering the amount of time that any professional website will be up and running once it?s finally kicked-off, it only makes sense to choose your web host wisely. It?s not uncommon for people to rush into this decision and regret later, when their sites become popular and the hosts cut their bandwidth or demand more money. This article will teach you how to avoid some common pitfalls like that and prepare for a brighter domain.

One important factor to consider when looking for a free web hosting provider is to find one that offers database availability. Most free providers do not include this in your package, but if you look hard enough, there are some out there that do, though they might have limitations on what you can do with the database.

Take the time to learn everything you can about what your web host is actually offering before you agree to do business with them. All hosts offer similar options, but some offer them for a significantly lower rate than others. Doing some research can help you get the best deal.

Unlimited web hosting services rarely are. A web hosting provider offering unlimited disk space, for example, could put limitations on the types of files you are allowed to upload and store. The unlimited bandwidth claims may actually be part of a tiered pricing system. Get all the information on these plans and don?t assume that unlimited is actually unlimited.

Think about setting up your own server if you want to save money. You will have to invest in hardware and learn how to operate and maintain your own server, but this also means you will not have to pay a monthly fee and have to rely on another web host.

To get started with your very first website, consider a free web hosting company. After all, your initial site is the one that will teach you lessons ? not make you a ton of profits. You may end up with a lot of downtime, and you?ll have ads that aren?t yours, but you?ll get an intro to running your own site.

Even if you are offered a discount for doing so, resist the temptation to pay in advance for years of web hosting service. In the event that your host server goes out of business, you could be stuck with no compensation. In addition, you may just be unhappy with their service, or you may find that you need to go out of business yourself. You will likely have trouble getting a refund if you pay too far in advance.

How will you contact your hosting provider in times of crisis? Hosts that provide you with multiple ways to reach them, including chats, telephone and email, are usually reliable companies. Doing so will prevent a great deal of stress in the event that something occurs.

With some web hosting companies, you can actually get rewarded for referring other people to them. You may get a small check, or a bigger discount, but every little bit helps. If you are happy with the service, you will probably refer people anyways, so why not get a little bonus from that?

Look into a web hosts policies on spam. There are many hosting companies out there that have made a bad name for themselves by hosting any number of malicious domains, just as long as the pay on time. You may not want to have your site sitting among this company. It can put your company in a bad light.

If you are looking into a host, check out the host?s up-time percentage. This means find out how often they are up and running and how often they deal with downtime and have system updates and issues. The higher this percentage, the better the host will probably be and the less problems you will have with your own site, staying up and running.

Some hosts offer refunds for the downtime of your site. Generally, the refund is not much to speak of, but the loss of potential sales can hurt your business. Look for a host with a good uptime rather than refunds.

If you are running an online business, you should avoid using a free web hosting service. Most free web hosting services do not have reliable up-time which means lost revenue. In addition, they also have forced banner ads and popup ads which can make your website seem unprofessional. Finally, a lot of free web hosting services do not give you the option of having your own domain name. If you are serious about your business, the cost of obtaining paid hosting should not be significant at all considering the benefits you will receive.

Look at the testimonials of a company closely, especially those featured on their site. Many shady web hosting companies offer fake customer reviews on their site. For some companies, this may be easy to spot, for others it may be more difficult. In either case, do not take these testimonials at face value. Get reviews from independent message boards not affiliated with the web hosting company.

You can often find discount rates from web hosting companies if you are will to commit to using their services for multiple years. You could save a lot of money.

All in all, you probably understand what a delicate procedure this can be and have a better appreciation for those that must endure it; as you soon will. However, now you have the benefit of knowledge and you should be able to grab a host without all of the secrecy and surprise that the normal customer undertakes

Collagen-seeking synthetic protein could lead doctors to tumor locations

ScienceDaily (Aug. 29, 2012) ? Johns Hopkins researchers have created a synthetic protein that, when activated by ultraviolet light, can guide doctors to places within the body where cancer, arthritis and other serious medical disorders can be detected.

The technique could lead to a new type of diagnostic imaging technology and may someday serve as a way to move medications to parts of the body where signs of disease have been found. In a study published in the Aug. 27-31 Online Early Edition of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the researchers reported success in using the synthetic protein in mouse models to locate prostate and pancreatic cancers, as well as to detect abnormal bone growth activity associated with Marfan syndrome.

The synthetic protein developed by the Johns Hopkins team does not zero in directly on the diseased cells. Instead, it binds to nearby collagen that has been degraded by various health disorders. Collagen, the body's most abundant protein, provides structure and creates a sturdy framework upon which cells build nerves, bone and skin. Some buildup and degradation of collagen is normal, but disease cells such as cancer can send out enzymes that break down collagen at an accelerated pace. It is this excessive damage, caused by disease, that the new synthetic protein can detect, the researchers said.

"These disease cells are like burglars who break into a house and do lots of damage but who are not there when the police arrive," said S. Michael Yu, a faculty member in the Whiting School of Engineering's Department of Materials Science and Engineering. "Instead of looking for the burglars, our synthetic protein is reacting to evidence left at the scene of the crime," said Yu, who was principal investigator in the study.

A key collaborator was Martin Pomper, a School of Medicine professor of radiology and co-principal investigator of the Johns Hopkins Center of Cancer Nanotechnology Excellence. Pomper and Yu met as fellow affiliates of the Johns Hopkins Institute for NanoBioTechnology. "A major unmet medical need is for a better non-invasive characterization of disrupted collagen, which occurs in a wide variety of disorders," Pomper said. "Michael has found what could be a very elegant and practical solution, which we are converting into a suite of imaging and potential agents for diagnosis and treatment."

The synthetic proteins used in the study are called collagen mimetic peptides or CMPs. These tiny bits of protein are attracted to and physically bind to degraded strands of collagen, particularly those damaged by disease. Fluorescent tags are placed on each CMP so that it will show up when doctors scan tissue with fluorescent imaging equipment. The glowing areas indicate the location of damaged collagen that is likely to be associated with disease.

In developing the technique, the researchers faced a challenge because CMPs tend to bind with one another and form their own structures, similar to DNA, in a way that would cause them to ignore the disease-linked collagen targeted by the researchers.

To remedy this, the study's lead author, Yang Li, synthesized CMPs that possess a chemical "cage" to keep the proteins from binding with one another. Just prior to entering the bloodstream to search for damaged collagen, a powerful ultraviolet light is used to "unlock" the cage and allow the CMPs to initiate their disease-tracking mission. Li is a doctoral student from the Department of Chemistry in the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences at Johns Hopkins. Yu, who holds a joint appointment in that department, is his doctoral adviser.

Yu's team tested Li's fluorescently tagged and caged peptides by injecting them into lab mice that possessed both prostate and pancreatic human cancer cells. Through a series of fluorescent images taken over four days, researchers tracked single strands of the synthetic protein spreading throughout the tumor sites via blood vessels and binding to collagen that had been damaged by cancer.

Similar in vivo tests showed that the CMP can target bones and cartilage that contain large amounts of degraded collagen. Therefore, the new protein could be used for diagnosis and treatment related to bone and cartilage damage.

Although the process is not well understood, the breakdown and rebuilding of collagen is thought to play a role in the excessive bone growth found in patients with Marfan syndrome. Yu's team tested their CMPs on a mouse model for this disease and saw increased CMP binding in the ribs and spines of the Marfan mice, as compared to the control mice.

Funding for the research was provided by the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense. The synthetic protein process used in this research is protected by patents obtained through the Johns Hopkins Technology Transfer Office.

Along with Yu, Li and Pomper, co-authors of this study were instructor Catherine A. Foss and medical resident Collin M. Torok from the Department of Radiology and Radiological Science at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine; Harry C. Dietz, a professor, and Jefferson J. Doyle, a doctoral student, both of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Institute of Genetic Medicine at the School of Medicine; and Daniel D. Summerfield a former master's student in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.

Types Of Online Advertising You Should Know | Online Business ...

?

If you wish to exhaust your chance for success in the internet business, it is important that you get into online advertising. With the competition as stiff as it is, there?s a call for extra measures to level the playing field. As everyone else runs ads, why don?t you do your own? Here, let?s enumerate six of the most popular types of online advertising and how they are done. Hopefully, you?ll have a clearer idea of what would work best for you after reading the article.

Businesses online also have directories. Some of them offer free listing while others are for a fee. Getting listed on either can help promote your business. Just make sure you got the right location and information so people who go to you are only those who truly need your product or service.

Banner ads are ads which look like banners on online business websites. They are long and catchy. Some of them even blink. They are one of the first kinds of online advertisement and they continue to be used till now. When you click on a banner ad, you will be directed to the site of the business which placed the ad. There you will learn more about the product or service. If the landing page is convincing enough, then a purchase might soon take place.

Display ads is one of the most popular types of online advertising utilized today. They are somewhat similar with banner ads in the sense that they are placed on different sites, but display ads come in various shapes and sizes. They can also be in the form of static images or flash videos.

Floating Ads. Ever wondered why at times, when you visit a site, a sort of announcement pops out and obscures the webpage you are trying to check? It continues to ?float? unless you wait some 30 seconds or click on the ?x? icon. Once you do this, you can then view the page clearly. When you hit ?refresh? though, the ad will appear again. This is called a floating ad. Floating ads are very catchy that?s why some entrepreneurs think that they are one of the best online advertising techniques that every business must utilize.

Takeover ads are what they say they are?they take the site over. Usually, a huge ad is displayed at the landing page of the site. Then, the same message of the ad can be seen throughout in the forms of buttons, side bars, or banners. They can be quite effective in branding because visitors will have no choice but read the message repeatedly. Click-through rates are usually high when you have takeover ads.

Unicast ads are ads which have audio and video elements in them. They are said to be effective because they run very much like TV commercials. They only differ because unicast ads are run on browser windows and can be clicked on for further information.

These are the most popular types of online advertising. If you have an internet marketing business or you intend to start one, these ideas can help you market it effectively. Give them a thought and weigh which ones would deliver the results you want.

IBM buys Kenexa for $1.3B in latest software deal

(AP) ? IBM is buying human resources management company Kenexa Corp. for about $1.3 billion, adding to its stable of cloud-based software.

The Monday announcement sent Kenexa's stock to the highest point since it began trading in mid-2005.

Kenexa's HR software is designed to help companies recruit workers and manage employees with the help of networking tools similar to the ones that connect people on Facebook and LinkedIn. The Wayne, Pa., company says it has more than 8,900 customers and employs about 2,800 workers. IBM said that it plans to continue to support Kenexa's clients while also giving them access to IBM's offerings.

The acquisition helps make the Armonk, N.Y., company more competitive with database maker Oracle Corp. and German business software maker SAP AG, said Rick Sherlund of Nomura Equity Research. Oracle and SAP have both recently been buying "cloud computing" companies. Such technology allows businesses to run software remotely rather than installing software in-house.

IBM is hoping to draw upon Kenexa's products and expertise to develop more social networking tools for corporate customers trying to foster better communication among their employees. Several other software makers also have recently snapped up services that make social networking services for companies. Microsoft Corp. is paying $1.2 billion for Yammer and Salesforce.com Inc. bought Buddy Media for $689 million. Oracle has bought at least three social software services so far this year.

Through the first half of this year, IBM had completed eight other acquisitions at a total cost of $2.2 billion.

IBM Corp. said that it will pay $46 per Kenexa share, a 42 percent premium to the company's Friday closing price of $32.39.

Kenexa has been struggling to make money for years. Since 2007, the company has posted losses totaling about $150 million. The company lost more than $4 million on revenue of $164 million during the first half of the year.

Kenexa stock jumped $13.46, or 41.5 percent, to $45.85 in Monday's afternoon trading. Earlier in the session the stock reached $45.93, its highest point since Kenexa started trading in June 2005. Shares had gained 21 percent this year.

IBM stock slipped $1.56 to $196.21.

Kenexa's board unanimously approved the deal, which is expected to close in the fourth quarter. It still needs approval from the company's shareholders and regulators.

You Know About Swimming Pool Contractors Lighting

Swimming pool contractors know every element of pool development and will know how to fix or substitute anything on your pool that needs to be done. Quite often, the excellent of perform that Swimming Pool Contractors do is far excellent to what a subcontractor does. Also, when you begin modifying out the floor and dealing, you begin to want to create other changes in your pool while it is under development.

Another inclusion that people want to put on their swimming pool is a spa. Maybe at the time that they designed their pool, they did not have resources for it. Now they are recognizing that they want a heated, healing atmosphere to rest in. This is not a hard accomplishment for swimming pool contractors as although there is development with electric and water system elements engaged, they have plenty of encounters doing it.

Pool Lighting

Safety is the area of utmost concern when deciding on swimming pool lighting, however considering the vastness of opportunities provided by the clean lined architecture of water bodies and the affects that can be achieved because of the illumination in water; this still remains the area of utmost interest.

There are various factors which have to be taken into consideration as a pre requisite when we are designing for the lighting of a pool, and the most important one is the provision of RCCB for the entire area which incorporates the pool. This is something which usually remains ignored by the contractors and swimming pool being a industry at nascent stage in Indian scenario, nevertheless this is the most vital component of the entire swimming pool lighting as this is what ensures the safety of the bathers against the leakage of current in the event of system malfunction.

With large swimming pool areas, fluorescents light sources are a great way of achieving the appropriate light levels needed for the space. Whether linear or compact, fluorescents provide great volumes of light whilst helping you to be energy efficient. Swimming pool lighting provides a range of opportunities because of the voluminous space they offer. We have variety of options starting from the normal halogen lamps and ending at the latest technologies like fiber optic and LED's. Fiber optics and LED's offer us the opportunity to light up the pool in linear strip pattern as well as dotted pattern, the latest one of the two is LED as the consumption of electricity is less and the life of bulb is also longer.

Creative lighting can enhance every experience. This should include scene setting which is now available through wired, wireless or remote lighting controls allowing the user total flexibility over their environment. The other important aspect that needs to be addressed by the contractors is the placement of the lights , as at times the similar lights with slightly innovative perspective to their placement provide entirely different get up to the pool , for instance providing the entire lighting of an infinity pool on the wall opposite to the vanishing edge wall- lightens up the vanishing edge of the water at the top , but hides the source of light from the people sitting on the deck, hence giving totally different character to the entire landscape, with the feel of an enigma.

The Importance of Phlebotomy School Accreditation | Education ...

August 27th, 2012 by admin Leave a reply ?

The issue of phlebotomy school accreditation is very important for prospective students to consider. In today?s competitive job market, it?s important to make sure you have the education and training that will help you keep up with the job market, and if the school you attended is not accredited, your education will not impress potential employers. Accreditation is more important than that, though. In order to be qualified and certified to work in this industry, you must attend an accredited phlebotomy school. Otherwise, your degree or certificate will be little more than a piece of paper. Choosing a Good School? Phlebotomists are very important members of the modern medical team. The main responsibility of a phlebotomist is drawing blood from patients and donors. In most cases, the phlebotomist takes blood samples that are used for medical diagnostic purposes, but phlebotomists may also work with donors at blood banks. Some phlebotomists draw blood for drug testing as well. It is important to go to a good school if you are going to be prepared for this job and all the responsibilities that it entails.

There are colleges and vocational schools that offer phlebotomy certificate programs, which can be completed in less than two years, or even as little as nine months in an accelerated program. Community college programs take the longest at two years, but at the end, you will have an associate?s degree instead of a mere certificate. Additionally, the more comprehensive training may be appealing to some employers.? Why Accreditation Is Important?? Any school you consider attending for your phlebotomy training should be accredited by a respected medical professional organization and acknowledged by the United States Department of Education. If you?re not attending a school that has been accredited, you cannot qualify for financial aid from the Department of Education, and the courses you take probably won?t be transferable to other schools if you decide to enter a different program or continue your education later on. Future employers may also question the authenticity of your training if you attended a school that wasn?t accredited.

Besides phlebotomy school accreditation, there are a few other things you need to be aware of when considering where to get your education. Look into the passing rates of graduates?if many of their former students did not pass the certification exams, it?s a bad sign. Also look into their career placement services, faculty and other resources. It?s your education, so make sure it?s a good one.? Find detailed information about top accredited Phlebotomy schools and phlebotomy courses at PhlebotomySchoolsU.com. Choose best phlebotomy school and program in your preferred locations and start your path to a rewarding career.

Looking After The Old, In Particular Those That Have Chronicle ...

Looking After The Old, In Particular Those That Have Chronicle Sickness Isn't A Straightforward Job.

Posted by Contributor on Aug 26, 2012 in Trusts

Care home appears to gain global acclaim presently due to our culture where the more youthful generations have a tendency to desert the aged. Looking after the aged, particularly those that have chronicle sickness isn't a straightforward job. If you look at some of the conventional houses, their facilities are far out-dated for the aged. Because of this, many affiliations appeared and start promoting quality improvement retirement home programs. This is essentially a programme hopes to augment the standard of houses. If not managed correctly, these doubtless ?allowable assets? could cause a candidate to get refused or tohave the Medicaid withdrawn after it had been approved. Why is this possible? Because in Florida, we think a person shouldn't become beggared simply because their partner becomes unwell and needs retirement home care. Lounge chairs will maybe be moved around less than other sorts of furniture, and so could be a tiny larger than in other bits of a nursing or residential center. Any pro who suggests this option to a happily wed couple is doing them a needless injustice.

Beds If the lounge is where most residents stay for much of the time, then the bedroom is where they spend a lot of the remaining time. Usually of the single bed type, these beds again must be awfully tough, though is any special wants are sought re mattress of mattress covering then this could be addressed separately. Among retirement home furniture beds, are maybe some of the most specialised types. The trick with care home furniture is to get a balance between the functional side of the furniture, the comfort, the cultured look and the cost. If the aged folks placed in the retirement home by their family, they're expecting they'll get all the care wanted to help them to stay healthy and cheerful. If the family see the danger signals of dehydration when visiting the aged relative, it should be instantly brought to the Riverbank retirement home staff?s attention and there ought to be prompt hospital therapy provided. This is also a situation that will have to be observed closely and if the nursing staff doesn't correct their behaviour, they have to be held answerable for not providing correct care. When the situation has gone outside the first danger signs the old residents health is in trouble, they could slip into a coma from the absence of the right quantity of liquids. This when it's time to consult an old abuse solicitor to hold the retirement home responsible.

? Ask folks you trust, like your health practitioner, family members, chums, neighbours, and clergy if they've had positive experience with a specific retirement home Keep a listing of the names of these facilities and look up contact info for each utilizing the telephone book or net. ? Call your Area Agency on Getting old ( AoA ). ? Call the Medicare Eldercare Locator at 1-800-677-1116 for info about nursing houses in your neighborhood. The local AoA can supply information regarding nursing houses in your neighborhood.

Periphery properties: Punjab fails to get ... - Real Estate India

??|?? August 25, 2012 ?? 02:33pm ??|Contributed by manoja

Desperate for a stay on the order passed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on setting up a Judicial Tribunal to probe the alleged illegal properties owned by high ups, the Punjab government failed to get any immediate relief from the Supreme Court.

A senior lawyer, arguing on behalf of the Punjab government requested a division bench of the Apex Court to stay the operation of the High Court order as the said order has made Punjab?s revenue and civil courts defunct. However, the Bench refused to grant stay or any immediate relief today. Putting queries, the Supreme Court today asked the Punjab government to return with response next week.

The Apex Court pointed out to a deficiency in an affidavit filed by the Punjab government in its special leave petition (SLP). The Bench objected to the affidavit filed by the Financial Commissioner, Revenue. The Bench observed that the affidavit, to support the SLP, should have been by the Principal Secretary to Punjab government.

Counsel for Punjab government requested the Bench to grant stay as an interim relief till the next date of hearing. The Bench however declined the request. In its SLP, the Punjab government has taken the plea that after the High Court?s order of setting up a Judicial Tribunal, its (Punjab) Revenue and Civil Courts have virtually become defunct.

The Punjab government has further stated that the High Court order has adversely affected the transfer of common land in the State. So much so that some of the government projects have also been affected, the State has submitted in its SLP.

The State has further stated that statutory bodies, like the Revenue Commissioners, have stopped entertaining cases and appeals pending before them after the High Court?s order. Punjab has further submitted that the High Court?s order, has put complete stay on registration of sale deeds regarding shamlat deh land.

As an immediate relief, the Punjab government had demanded that the High Court?s order should be stayed immediately so that the Revenue Court and Civil Courts can adjudicate disputes pertaining transfer/ sale and alienation of common land.

On May 30, a division bench of the High Court had set up a Judicial Tribunal today to find out the alleged illegal properties owned by high-ups in the city?s periphery and other parts of Punjab. In an embarrassment to the Punjab government which had been investigating the case for the past five years, the High Court had expanded the scope of investigation from city?s periphery to other districts in Punjab where village/ common land has been grabbed or sold by high-ups/ private persons.

Significantly, the High Court had also included jumla mushtarkan malkhan land other than shamlat / forest/ nazool land which were already under the HC scanner. In 2007 the Court had directed the Punjab government to conduct an investigation and submit a report. Even after conducting the probe and submitting several status reports, the High court had observed, no ?tangible progress? was shown and no ?tangible? action was taken against the culprits.

Roger Clemens back on the mound at age 50

SUGAR LAND, Texas (AP) ? Roger Clemens raved about all the fun he had pitching at age 50 and putting smiles on the faces of Sugar Land baseball fans.

Still, it wasn't enough to set his mind on a major league comeback ? at least not yet.

"No," Clemens said. "I've had success before at that level and other things. Again, it's a great deal of work and I'm not thinking that at this point."

Pitching for the first time in five years, Clemens tossed 3 1-3 scoreless innings Saturday night for the Sugar Land Skeeters of the independent Atlantic League.

He faced the Bridgeport Bluefish and struck out two, including former major leaguer Joey Gathright to start the game. He allowed one hit without a walk and threw 37 pitches.

Scouts from the Houston Astros and Kansas City Royals were on hand to see Clemens' comeback ? for however long it lasts and wherever it leads.

"I think it will fuel that speculation," Royals pro scout Ron Toenjes said after watching the performance. "I just don't know what will happen. I don't think anyone does."

Clemens received a standing ovation when he left the game. He stopped to tip his cap to the overflow crowd of 7,724 before heading into the dugout to begin recuperating and see how his body responds to his big night.

Sugar Land manager Gary Gaetti, a two-time All-Star third baseman with the Minnesota Twins, said he was impressed by Clemens' outing after such a long layoff. He admitted before the game he was a bit concerned about how things would go because of Clemens' age and time off.

"He did a great job," Gaetti said. "He really did."

Tal Smith, a longtime Astros executive and currently a special adviser to the Skeeters, said Clemens had great command and that he believes he could pitch in the majors again.

The Rocket agreed to join the Skeeters on Monday after throwing a simulated game for team officials. He was still feeling the effects from that workout Saturday, and said he would have pushed back this start if he didn't have other commitments coming up in the next few days.

"I probably overextended myself a little bit," Clemens said, later adding that he'll be spending a lot of time icing his aging body in the upcoming days. "I wanted to see where I was at. Anytime you do these, they're fun but you don't want to go out and embarrass yourself or embarrass the club."

He didn't rule out the possibility of making another start for the Skeeters, and said he'd discuss it with Gaetti in the next few days.

"We'll visit and if we can do something special down the road, we'll do it again for some of the people that couldn't get here," Clemens said. "I'm definitely open to it if they want to do it. It was a great deal of fun for me now that it's over and I stayed healthy."

Clemens certainly was happy to be back on a diamond instead of in a courtroom. In June, the seven-time Cy Young Award winner was acquitted of charges he lied to Congress when he denied using performance-enhancing drugs.

Clemens, who last pitched for the New York Yankees in 2007, worked a 1-2-3 first inning and fanned two. His fastball was clocked at 88 mph, and he mixed in curves and splitters. He finished with four groundouts and four flyouts.

Toenjes liked what he saw.

"The thing that I was impressed with is you have a 50-year-old man out there throwing 87-88 (mph) most of the night, and he's got a real good splitter," he said. "His command wasn't as good as it could have been, but that it was a good, hard splitter, which is what you wanted to see."

Wearing the No. 21 that he sported during his rise to fame with Boston nearly three decades ago, Clemens got a big cheer when he took the mound.

After whiffing Gathright, Clemens retired Luis Figueroa on a grounder and struck out Prentice Redman to end the inning. The sellout crowd, with many fans wearing Skeeters T-shirts with Clemens' name on them, gave him another loud ovation.

Gathright thought Clemens would be more erratic.

"He didn't lose any command. Everything was pretty good for somebody that age," Gathright said.

Clemens didn't allow a hit until James Simmons' single with two outs in the second. He retired the next batter to end the eight-pitch inning.

Clemens has a bit of a belly that scores of 50-year-olds have, but he was effective enough against many hitters who were almost half his age.

He is set to appear on the Hall of Fame ballot going out to voters late this year. If he plays in a major league game this season, his consideration for Cooperstown would be pushed back five years.

Clemens, who wore gray cleats with bright yellow accents, needed 13 pitches to get through a perfect third inning. He threw one more pitch after that and Figueroa lined out to end Clemens' night with the Skeeters on top 1-0.

That was the final score, too.

After he left the game, Clemens stood along the railing of the dugout and chatted with his teammates, including fellow former major league pitcher Scott Kazmir and Jason Lane, who played with Clemens on Houston's 2005 World Series team.

Fans kept inching down near the dugout armed with phones, iPads and other cameras looking to snap a picture and collect a memory of the big night in this Houston suburb about 20 minutes from downtown.

Playing close to home, Clemens had a large group of friends and family among the crowd, including wife Debbie and sons Kacy and Kody.

Clemens earned about $160 million and won 354 games in a 24-year career with the Red Sox, Blue Jays, Yankees and Astros. His 4,672 strikeouts are third-most and he was picked for 11 All-Star games.

Clemens has spent much of his time out of baseball defending his reputation.

He was accused by former personal trainer Brian McNamee in the Mitchell Report on drugs in baseball of using steroids and HGH, allegations Clemens denied before Congress. The Justice Department began an investigation into whether he had lied under oath, and in 2010 a grand jury indicted him on two counts of perjury, three counts of making false statements and one count of obstructing Congress.

He was acquitted of all the charges on June 19 after a 10-week trial and had largely stayed out of the public spotlight until now.

Many of his former teammates have said they believe that he could pitch again in the majors.

Clemens had two great seasons with the Astros after he turned 40, going 18-4 with a 2.98 ERA in 2004 to win his record seventh Cy Young Award. He was 13-8 with a career-low 1.87 ERA in 2005 while helping his hometown Astros reach their only World Series, and the team has already said it wouldn't rule out bringing him back this year.

On Saturday, he sounded as though he'd be more interested in joining fellow former Houston stars Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell in advising the players on what is the worst team in the majors right now than returning to play there himself.

"Where I can help, I'll do it," Clemens said. "I still think our hometown team, the Houston Astros, need some identity right now and I sure hope that Biggio and Bagwell come back if I'm running out there because they have a wealth of knowledge and they can help these young kids if they want to listen."
